Ambientec Samba-M

The Ambientec Samba-M, a remarkable reissue of Shiro Kuramata's iconic design, captures the essence of innovative lighting. Originally introduced in 1988 at the "IN-SPIRATION" exhibition, this piece traveled through Tokyo, Paris, and Milan, showcasing advancements in lighting unconstrained by traditional designs. Shiro Kuramata, a pivotal figure in the design community, left a profound impact with his avant-garde approach and integration of emerging technologies.

This modern rendition, overseen by Kuramata Design Office and initiated by Gallery Tamura Joe, enhances the original design with contemporary features like double-walled glass and waterproof, USB-rechargeable capabilities. The integration of a long-lasting lithium-ion battery ensures enduring performance across three brightness levels. Designed to be more accessible, it retains the artistic flair of the original, which was celebrated for its red LED light encased in a wine-glass-shaped glass, a highlight at its unveiling where it mesmerized guests illuminated in a thematic red glow.

The Ambientec Samba-M not only serves as a functional light source but also as a testament to Shiro Kuramata’s legacy of blending art with utility, making it a valuable addition to any collection of modern design.
