101 Copenhagen Nama Lounge Chair

The Nama Lounge Chair in Natural Oak with Nubuck upholstery represents a masterclass in minimalist design, drawing inspiration from the refined simplicity of traditional Japanese stick chairs. True to its name—Nama, meaning "raw" and "natural" in Japanese—this piece celebrates the beauty of essential design through thoughtful craftsmanship and intelligent material selection.

Every wooden element serves a vital structural purpose, with each stick carefully rounded, bent, and composed to create a sculptural yet understated silhouette. This intentional reduction to essentials results in a chair that is lightweight, elegant, and remarkably durable—perfect for relaxed living spaces where comfort meets contemporary aesthetics.

A distinctive design feature is the upholstered backrest, inspired by iconic Copenhagen bicycle bags and mounted to the wooden frame with two simple straps. This detail adds both visual character and exceptional comfort, while the fully upholstered seat invites long afternoons of reading, conversation, or quiet reflection.

Crafted from FSC-certified American Red Oak paired with premium nubuck upholstery, the chair combines grounded strength with natural warmth. The oak's grain reveals its story through use, while the nubuck develops a rich patina over time. Measuring 71cm in length, 69cm in width, and 73.5cm in height, the chair weighs 12.2kg, making it both substantial and manageable.

Designed by Kristian Sofus Hansen and Tommy Hyldahl, the Nama Lounge Chair transcends time—poetic yet practical, expressive yet enduring. It is furniture crafted to age beautifully and grow more individual with each passing year.
